Travel up the M5 was painfully slow, which meant that many of us arrived too late to find camping space with the early birds and had to form a second encampment. It worked well, although communication was sometimes hampered!
After a wet Friday night, the weather steadily improved through the weekend. Saturday we danced in the town, including a couple of spots with Shropshire Bedlams and Martha Rhodens Tuppeny Dish - and a procession. Then, back to the festival site to run the children's morris workshop - which went remarkably well.
Sunday started with a performance on the festival stage and a trip into town. We returned to the site in the afternoon to run another children's workshop, thereby avoiding another procession - result!
In the evening, a 'flash-mob' gin party at Jeremy's after which many of us went to an Oyster Band ceilidh - most enjoyable. Unfortunately, somewhere amongst this (possibly after the gin party!) Meg twisted her ankle badly and, accompanied by Quinton, was in A&E until 4am the following morning.
On Monday, Quinton headed homeward with the invalid - leaving us squireless! But fear not, Simon (Deputy Squire) took over seamlessly and we did an excellent performance on the festival stage (Four Poster Bed, Lass of Richmond Hill, 42nd) with plenty of audience participation.
Then, the final children's workshop, followed by their performance on the stage (Winster, Stamp and Clap, Four Poster Bed) - which also went well. Hopefully there were a few kids who may have been bitten by the bug and will want to dance in the future.
After that, the long journey home. A successful and enjoyable weekend.
